The only conspiracy with Justify is why he never got the respect he deserved

Undefeated Triple Crown winner Justify has been retired from racing due to a troublesome ankle, finishing a historical career on the track.
„Justify had some meeting in his arm, and he is just not responding quick enough to get a fall campaign,“ said trainer Bob Baffert. „We all wanted to see Justify encounter again, but ultimately it is my responsibility to be sure he is ideal. With no 60-90 days, I can’t be definite.“
Justify rolled in his first start at Santa Anita Park on Feb. 18 and never looked back, winning his next five races in dramatic fashion. He also won the Kentucky Derby by 2-1/2 lengths on May 5, becoming the first horse since Apollo in 1882 to acquire the Derby without having hurried as a 2-year-old.
Justify proceeded to catch The Preakness Stakes under the foggiest of ailments with constant pressure from the area. Subsequently, Justify went on to acquire The Belmont Stakes in wire-to-wire fashion, winning by 1-3/4 lengths to become the first undefeated Triple Crown winner since Seattle Slew in 1977.
Jockey Mike Smith was aboard the Triple Crown successes and he knew he was riding a unique colt.
„Like everybody else. I am disappointed that he won’t run again, but I am thankful he came to my life,“ Smith stated. There was never a time once I rode him that I felt as though I was going to get beat. There was no horse who could run with him without sacrificing themselves, and there wasn’t any horse who could come . He actually is a gift from God.“
Justify’s six successes led to him earning $3,798,000 at a short 3-1/2 month span. He became the 13th Triple Crown winner and the next horse to achieve this in four decades. He captivated the hearts of many and his accomplishments will probably be one for the history books.
However, the conspiracy theories continue with this celebrity, first that Baffert was accused of having among the other horses obstruct Justify’s closest rivals in the Belmont so he could fasten the Triple Crown.
Justify’s most up-to-date accident was deemed a jealous farce from the haters thus his ownership could retire the champ immediately before he is beaten and whisk him off to stud to obtain the big bucks. Justify was compared to a poor imitation of Secretariat — a floundering horse who just happen to summit at the ideal time and didn’t really beat anybody special. This horse never appeared to get the respect and admiration he fully deserved.
We have to realize we can’t compare celebrity horses of 40 years ago to the racing animals. It was just a different time.
Horses of the past ran more often and trained more distances. They were wider, more muscular and had sturdier legs. They were not all on Lasix and other medications and they were better conditioned. If you can’t find this difference in comparison of our horses now, you are either too young or somewhat blind.
Justify managed every challenge thrown at him and responded with class, dignity and a victory in each race. It’s possible to despise him if you want and get on board with all the conspiracy theories but the simple fact remains he won the Triple Crown and also did things no other horse would attain.
Justify was likely to be pointed towards a significant race this summer, quite possibly the Travers Stakes at Saratoga or The Pacific Classic at Del Mar, with the ultimate aim being the 5 million Breeders‘ Cup Classic on Nov. 3 at Churchill Downs.
Justify will return into WinStar Farm first next month and there’s a potential deal in place for Coolmore Stud to acquire the colt and his breeding rights. However, before that, he’ll be paraded before the enthusiasts in Del Mar on July 28.
I do have a soft place in my heart with this bonified champion. Justify was my pick in The Kentucky Derby and my first Derby winner . I selected him to win The Triple Crown and he did.
Placing my heart apart for a moment, I believe we have to love what this horse has done and ignore what he has not done, in addition to the comparisons to ancient super horses.
Justify could not have done more for Thoroughbred racing in the usa or raced any better in such a brief span. Let’s give credit where credit is due and provide Justify all of the love. I, for one, wish him well in his future endeavors and enjoy his remarkable achievements.
