Katie Taylor can develop into a two-weight world champion when she challenges Christina Linardatou for its WBO belt on November 2, live on Sky Sports.
The Irish star was crowned as the undisputed lightweight winner after a hard-fought triumph over Delfine Persoon at June and now targets a global name in a higher weight class at Manchester Arena, with Anthony Crolla’s farewell battle and Joshua Buatsi’s WBA light-heavyweight title eliminator against Blake Caparello.
Taylor intends to cement her status as the world’s greatest female fighter in the near future and fully is currently relishing her WBO title battle at the major event.
„I had some of my early pro fights at the Manchester Arena and also to come back in November and headline a card a couple years on is awesome,“ said Taylor.
„It is played host to some tremendous nights at boxing history so I’m honoured to be a part of that tradition.
„It’s a new challenge in a new weight and something I’m really excited about. I feel like I have so much left to achieve in the game and getting a two-weight world champion is among these goals.
„There are still numerous huge fights out there for me like the Amanda Serrano fight, a rematch with Delfine Persoon plus a fight with Cecilia Br??khus but the first aim is November 2 and winning yet a second domain.
„I don’t have any problems making lightweight so that I believe I could move comfortably between the two weights. I always want to drive myself and Christina is an excellent world champion, so it’s going to be a major test for me personally.“
But Linardatou, with one loss and 12 wins, believes she can inflict a devastating first defeat on Taylor.
„I intend on leaving England with my title,“ she explained. „If I want to knock on Katie Taylor outside in order to keep the name, that’s what I’ll do.“
Mancunian Crolla yields to the scene of his greatest victory, a stoppage win over Darleys Perez to make the WBA belt in November 2015, before this season, after falling short against merged winner Vasiliy Lomachenko and the 32-year-old will have one fight.
Buatsi ceased Ryan Ford in seven rounds but should be given a sterner challenge contrary to Australian Caparello, a former world title challenger, who has shared the ring with Sergey Kovalev and Andre Dirrell.
Felix Cash defends his Commonwealth middleweight title against English Champion Jack Cullen and Gamal Yafai can take the next step towards a title in the featherweight division.
„I’m so happy to be back in Manchester with this enormous series,“ said Matchroom Boxing boss Eddie Hearn.
„Katie Taylor is now established as one of the biggest stars on earth boxing and she wants to make more history by turning into a multi-weight world winner by ambitious WBO super-lightweight winner Christina Linardatou.
„Hometown hero Anthony Crolla rolls the dice one more time as he takes a part in his final fight in the sport in the stadium that has functioned many epic Anthony Crolla nights.
„Even the stabilisers are off for Joshua Buatsi as he takes a massive step up against demanding Australian Blake Caparello at a WBA world title eliminator and there is a brilliant domestic middleweight clash between Commonwealth champ Felix Cash and English champ Jack Cullen.
„There is a lot more beneath those four fights on what’s going to be a huge night of boxing“
Adam Smith, Head of Sky Sports Boxing, stated:“We’re absolutely thrilled to be showing the best female boxer in the world back on Sky Sports on this huge show. This is another evaluation for Katie Taylor because the unified lightweight champion continues to cement her extraordinary legacy in the game and takes on all comers.
„Katie is really a marvellous ambassador and inspiration to so many and we’re thrilled to be working so closely with her because we seem to feature the very best in boxing and in women’s game on Sky.“
