Nigel Benn has been described as the“fittest 55-year-old on earth Earth“ as he prepares to get a shock ring return.
The winner hasn’t fought since November 1996 but will restart his career on 23 November, based on some promoter Mark Peters.
„I would not encourage Nigel when I did not believe he had been fit to ship,“ he further added.
The British Boxing Board of Control (BBBoc) is contrary to the fight, which is warranted by the rival Irish and British Boxing Authority (Biba).
Benn – whose final battle was a defeat by Irishman Steve Collins – has handed all Biba’s medical tests, while there’ll be a professional in head injury and a brain scanner available at ringside on fight night.
40, former world champion Sakio Bika, was tipped to be his first competitor.
Peters, his promoter and friend, told BBC Sport the narrative ought to be viewed as a positive one, and that even at 55, London-born Benn is in a condition that most guys his age would envy.
„It is not like Nigel left the game, wrapped up his gloves rather than trained again,“ he explained. „He has to be the most picky 55-year-old on planet Earth.
„He has still been training twice per day and he will shadow box everywhere.
„I wouldn’t support Nigel if I didn’t think he was fit to box. Nor is he doing this for financial reasons. He’s away from skint – in which he lives, in fact, he has only built a gigantic home for himself from Australia.
„It’s his life and his prerogative to battle.
„From his perspective, this is closure for him“
Benn was a part of a generation in the super-middleweight division in the 1990s, his style resulting in big fights.
There were attempts to organize a struggle with the two of these two on this particular occasion, while a strategy was also made to American Roy Jones Jr..
Benn is expected to confront Cameroon-born Bika, who lost into the Welsh world champion Joe Calzaghe in 2006 on points, and whose last battle was in 2017.
Biba – a rival into the BBBoC started in 2016 – said that it was happy to let the struggle, despite Benn’s age.
There’ll also be strict protocols as Biba introduced mobile scanners to ringside at all of their sanctioned fights in March 2017.
„Nigel Benn is in amazing condition,“ explained Biba vice-president Gianluca di Caro. „He’s really a magnificent athlete. He isn’t taking any chances and he’s minimising risk.
„All of the boxes are ticked for us. There’ll be increased medical oversight and everything will be in place.“
No formal application had been made into the BBBofC – the human body for the sport in the UK – despite the struggle taking place.
„Nigel Benn has not boxed for a longlong time,“ said Robert Smith, the general secretary of this BBBofC.
„We have not had a formal program for a licence from him but we had a dialogue in the summertime and we told him that he had been very, very unlikely to get you.
„It isn’t in the best interests , or for your game.“
One of Benn’s most famous fights at the peak of his career came against American Gerald McClellan in 1995, with McClellan suffering life-changing accidents.
Injuries at the game continue to cause controversy, with trainer Robert McCracken’s remarks concerning British heavyweight Anthony Joshua regarding concussion within his defeat by Andy Ruiz Jr, recently making headlines.
Brain injury charity, Headway, is uneasy about the thought of a 55-year-old boxing competitively.
„Boxing at any point is an inherently dangerous sport,“ said chief executive Peter McCabe.
„We know that each setback to the head delivered by a boxer has got the potential to cause serious and long-term brain injury or even death“
